"I started drawing when I retired 7 years ago. I had no formal training in art, so I took drawing classes at the Royal Art Society. My teacher there, Alan Somerville, told me about Nude Night, then at St Peters. I loved it from my first visit. Rather than the silent, formal life drawing sessions I had been used to, Paul creates an environment that's relaxed and playful that inspires creativity for both the models and artists.
The portrait of Paul as Padme is done in oil on canvas, from a photo taken of Paul at the federal election night party at The Doodler. The theme of the party was - come as a politician from the past.
I have learnt to paint from realist portrait artists such as Sally Ryan and landscape artists such as Kasey Sealy. I'm not pursuing a particular direction, but I love my art journey.
I hope the painting gives the viewer a sense of Paul’s punk inspired joyful absurdity and his colourful ingenuity."
